Jill Colley

Jill began to explore her artistic abilities in 1992, starting with drawing and pastel classes. These were followed by tuition in oil painting at the Artists’ Co-Op in Observatory, and also painting workshops in Venice and rural France. After experiencing the excitement of mixing buttery oil colours on the palette and the aromas of paint and turps she chose to stay with this medium, also preferring the permanence of oil on canvas.

Up to this time the focus has been mostly on creating calm, classic still life paintings, especially fruits and flowers. She finds shadows fascinating and these usually feature fairly strongly in her work. Her paintings have been sold in several galleries and outlets in the Cape.

She lives in Somerset West with her husband and son.
