Wendy Rosselli

Wendy Rosselli, was born in Johannesburg. She studied art initially at the Johannesburg Technical College then continued her studies at St. Martins School of Art in London. She moved to Zimbabwe with her husband Robin in 1957 and settled in Masvingo, the life and landscape of which are clearly evident in her work of this period. She first exhibited in Zimbabwe in the annual heritage exhibition at the National Gallery in 1961 and thereafter fairly regularly through the 1970s, 80s and 90s. Wendy lives and paints in Kommetjie, a small seaside village in the Western Cape. The influence of the environment is clearly visible in her work, both in the subject matter and in the use of light, colour and space. Her interest in simplification of form and the canvas surface is also evident. Her medium remains predominantly oil paint on canvas and her subject matter continues to include trees, flowers and birds.
