Anneli Tiilikainen

Anneli was born in Cape Town in 1968. Her interest in art began at an early age while watching her creative mother draw and make pottery, which she also taught. Anneli enjoyed her art classes during her school years and enrolled in a part-time course at the Ruth Prowse School of Art in 1986. More serious about furthering her career opportunities, she went on to study graphic design at the Cape Technikon, but soon realised that the formality of commercial art was limiting her creativity in the world of fine art. She happily left the Cape Technikon and was grateful to be able to join the Foundation School of Art where she flourished as an artist under the encouragement and guidance of lecturer and Principal Barbara Pitt. Her talent and hard work were well rewarded wen, during a school exhibition held at the Association of Visual Arts, the S.A National Gallery bought her painting “The Offering” for their New Acquisitions collection. Anneli graduated in 1991 with a Fine Arts Diploma from the F.S.A.
